Minimise complications
Very accurate PDT dosimetry is requried to ensure complete treatment of the prostate tissue while sparing adjacent normal tissue, such as that of the rectum, bladder and erectile nerves. Studies show that it is possible to minimise complications such as impotence and incontinence by using interstitial PDT with real-time dosimetry.
